About Us
A Legacy of Compassion, Care, and Service Since 1959
The Delhi Christian Friend-in-Need Society is an inter-denominational charitable organization dedicated to serving the elderly, supporting the needy, and promoting human dignity through compassionate care. Established on 14 October 1959, the Society was founded by church leaders and community members who shared a common vision of helping those facing hardship and creating a safe, caring environment for senior citizens in need. For more than six decades, we have remained committed to providing hope, support, and practical assistance to vulnerable individuals. What began as a small charitable initiative has grown into a respected organization known for its dedication, transparency, and unwavering commitment to service.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide compassionate care and support to senior citizens and individuals in need, ensuring that they live with dignity, comfort, and respect. We strive to create an environment where every person feels valued, cared for, and empowered to live a meaningful life.
Our Vision
We envision a society where no elderly person is left without care, companionship, or support. Through our services and outreach programs, we aim to create a future where every individual can experience security, dignity, and hope regardless of their background or circumstances.
Our Core Objectives
The Society was established with two primary objectives: To provide assistance, within its means, to deserving and needy individuals. To establish, operate, and maintain a Home for the Aged that offers care, shelter, and support to senior citizens.
These objectives continue to guide our work and inspire our commitment to serving the community.
Our Story
The Society was established during a meeting of Ministers and representatives from various churches in Delhi, convened by Mr. Samson Daniel. The purpose was simple yet profound: to create a united effort to assist deserving and needy individuals and to establish a permanent home for elderly people who required care, companionship, and support. Following its formation, a provisional committee was constituted under the leadership of the Bishop of Delhi. The committee worked diligently to draft the Society’s constitution, organize charitable activities, and raise funds for community welfare programs. On 28 January 1960, the Constitution of the Society was unanimously approved, laying the foundation for a structured and sustainable charitable organization. Over the years, the Society expanded its activities and strengthened its commitment to serving humanity. Through the generosity of churches, schools, donors, and well-wishers, the vision of creating a Home for the Aged became a reality.
Home for the Aged – A Home Built on Love and Care
One of the most significant milestones in the Society’s journey was the establishment of the Home for the Aged at Fatehpur Beri, New Delhi. The idea of creating a dedicated home for senior citizens emerged in the 1960s. Through fundraising activities, sponsored walks, charitable events, and generous donations, the Society gradually accumulated resources to make this dream a reality. The foundation stone for the Home was laid on 10 November 1973, marking the beginning of a project that would positively impact countless lives. In 1975, the first phase of construction was completed, providing accommodation for elderly residents. Over time, the facility expanded and improved, increasing its capacity and enhancing the quality of care available to residents. Today, the Home for the Aged stands as a symbol of compassion and community support, providing a safe, peaceful, and dignified living environment for senior citizens.
Serving All Communities
A landmark decision in the Society’s history was made in September 1974, when it was resolved that the Society’s services and the Home for the Aged would be open to people of all religions and communities.
This decision reflected our belief that compassion knows no boundaries and that every human being deserves care, respect, and support. Since then, the Society has welcomed and served individuals from diverse backgrounds, strengthening its commitment to inclusiveness and unity.
Facilities and Care for Residents
The Home for the Aged provides a comfortable and supportive environment designed to meet the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of its residents.
